If your business, or tech team, has been feeling a bit testosterone-heavy lately, then the Tech Talent Charter could help you mix it up! An employer-led initiative, the TTC is bringing together organisations from across industries, from start-ups to multinationals, to address gender imbalance in tech roles. It was even supported by a Government policy paper on UK Digital Strategy in March this year.
Gender imbalance runs deep in UK tech and as part of the Tech City Community, and supporter of tech businesses, it’s an issue close to The Brew’s heart. Our mural of Ada Lovelace, the computing visionary, at Eagle House, is just one of the little things we do to celebrate how women have influenced tech.
Currently, just 17% of tech and ICT workers across the country are women and only one in ten females are currently taking A’ Level Computer Studies. Yet overall, the industry is suffering from acute skills shortages! More women can only mean a more diverse, inclusive, fairer and more commercially successful tech workforce. It’s time we all did are part to make a change.
Signatories of the charter must commit to a number of pledges and concrete steps they’ll take to address gender imbalance across tech roles in their own organisation. But you won’t have to do it alone. TTC provides loads of guidance and resources, cases studies and best practice examples from other organisations, to help you.
So, what are you waiting for!
