Experts in near space exploration – Sent into Space - win £5,000 for vital equipment
Small Business Grants – the monthly cash competition supported by The Brew - has announced its October winner - and they’re truly out of this world! Born out of a university science project, Sent into Space has pioneered the commercial and research possibilities of near-space exploration and built a one-of-a-kind business.
Founders, Alex Baker and Chris Rose, have found a niche for themselves offering unique branding and advertising opportunities by sending clients’ products into near space – creating breath-taking and otherworldly images.
But it doesn’t stop there. They’re also using their expertise to inspire the astronauts and scientists of the future, develop a platform for high altitude research and - our personal favourite - help customers to send a loved one’s ashes into space!
The Small Business Grants judges – including The Brew’s very own MD, Andrew Clough – were blown away by the innovation and creativity shown by Sent into Space, as well as their commercial success to date, with the company already turning over circa £300,000.
The founders are going to put the £5,000 to good use, using it to buy a brand-new CNC machine, to build the near-space payloads it relies upon. The machine will help the team to improve turnaround time for projects, while also increasing the precision of their work.
So, massive congratulations to Sent into Space – hugely deserved!
And you can follow in their footsteps! Small Business Grants is giving away £5,000 every month, so there are plenty of opportunities to enter.
