Deadline to register is 17th April for elections on 3rd May
Local elections might not get the same attention as nationwide votes, like the General Election or EU Referendum. But as a startup or SME, voting for your local council provides an opportunity to influence policies that have a direct impact on the success of your business at a local level.
On the 3rd May 2018, residents across London will vote for councillors (and in some boroughs, Mayors) who will make decisions about the local economy for the next four years. They’ll have control over how local budgets are allocated, along with numerous issues that affect small businesses including Business Rates spend (especially now London Councils can retain a higher percentage of what they collect), planning applications, licensing and the provision of affordable workspace, like The Brew.
Local Government also influences the procurement of goods and services, with councils coming under pressure in recent years to offer more opportunities to smaller suppliers. So, it really could have an impact on the bottom line.
If you haven’t yet registered to vote, then don’t delay, with less than two weeks until the deadline. It’s super quick and painless, just visit the dedicated register to vote page here.
And of course, don't forget to get down that polling station on 3rd May!
