Clarity in Chaos: What Went Down at The Brew’s Latest Lunch & Learn
Have you ever felt stuck trying to make the “right” decision in your business?
That’s exactly the quandary that we tackled at the latest Lunch & Learn at The Brew on 17th March with Stefania Ghisleni, Senior Program Manager at Amazon UK and experienced business coach: helping founders, leaders, and growing teams cut through the noise and make clearer, faster decisions.
The Brew is all about bringing ambitious people together, whether you’re building something new, scaling a team, or figuring out your next move. These events are about real conversations, practical ideas, and actually leaving with something useful.
This session was a perfect example of that.
First Things First: You Don’t Need All the Answers
One of the most reassuring takeaways from the session?
You don’t need perfect information to make a good decision.
In fact, waiting for it can slow you down. The idea shared was that many decisions can (and should) be made with partial information and then refined as you go.
For anyone who’s been overthinking their next move, this felt like permission to just get on with it.
Start With Your Customer (Always)
It sounds obvious, but it’s easy to lose sight of.
Before jumping into solutions, the session brought things back to basics:
Who are you actually building for?
By identifying one clear customer and one clear problem, everything else falls into place much more easily.
A Simple Trick That Changes Everything
One of the standout ideas from the session was surprisingly simple:
Write your future launch announcement.
Imagine your product or idea already exists. What are people saying about it? Why do they care?
It’s a great way to pressure-test whether what you’re building is genuinely useful or just feels like a good idea in your head.
Be Honest: Is Your Idea Actually That Good?
Another big theme was challenging your own thinking.
We all naturally look for information that confirms what we already believe (classic human behaviour). But better decisions can come from actively questioning your assumptions and inviting different perspectives.
It’s not always comfortable, but it’s where clarity really begins to take hold.
Don’t Go All In Straight Away
One thing The Brew community knows well: you don’t need to bet everything at once.
The session highlighted the value of testing ideas on a smaller scale first by running pilots, gathering feedback, and learning before you commit fully.
It’s a much less risky (and often much smarter) way to build.
Move Fast, But Not Blindly
A really useful distinction came up around decision types:
- Some decisions are easy to reverse, therefore you should move quickly and take action if you can.
- Others are harder to undo, which means you should take your time to reevaluate and consider.
Knowing the difference helps you avoid overthinking the small stuff.
As You Grow, You Need Structure
As teams grow, things naturally get messier. Simple processes like clear roles, regular check-ins, and shared metrics can keep the business in order. Not to slow things down, but to actually make decision-making easier and more consistent.
Done right, this structure actually gives you more freedom.
And Finally: Someone Has to Own It
This one landed hard for many people in the room.
Every decision needs a clear owner. Because when task ownership is clear, things move faster. When it’s not… things drift.
During the session we also got to form mini groups and start problem-solving with our new decision-making toolkit. We were encouraged to:
- Bring real challenges they’re currently facing
- Talk them through with others in the room
- Apply the principles straight away
- Commit to their next steps
That’s very much our style: practical, honest, and focused on progress over perfection.
