Our environmental commitment in action

We’re working with award-winning waste and recycling company, First Mile, to make our workspaces as sustainable as possible while keeping recycling simple and stress-free for our members.

 

Simple recycling

There is no Planet B, so we’re not dallying around. We’re working with First Mile, which operates a zero-to-landfill recycling model, meaning anything that can’t be recycled is used to produce energy from waste.

They also provide flexible and straightforward recycling solutions by allowing recycling to be collected together – the only thing that needs to be separated is food waste; everything else goes into one bin, making it easy for members to not only do their part for the environment, but to do it efficiently too.

Smart resource use

We also appreciate that First Mile charges only for collection on a pay-as-you-go basis. As our workspaces are so flexible – to meet the demands of solopreneurs to start-ups, scale-ups and 250-person+ sized companies – so is the amount of recycling we produce.

We pay for what we produce and schedule collections as needed, avoiding wasting resources.

Energy efficiency

We don’t stop there; other steps to reduce our carbon footprint include a range of energy-efficient technologies in our coworking spaces and encouraging cycling, which helps reduce carbon emissions, by providing bike racks at our Eagle House location.

At The Brew, sustainability is at the heart of how we design and operate our workspaces. Our building holds a strong Energy Efficiency Rating of A+ (0), as shown in our official Energy Label. This rating reflects responsible energy management, efficient building systems, and ongoing efforts to reduce our environmental impact.

How to create a more sustainable workplace

As it’s not all about us, here are some handy tips on how you can become more eco-friendly in your office…

  1. Turn the lights out when no one is using the room. Whether it’s a toilet, meeting room or the kitchen, flip the switch on the way out.
  2. Encourage your staff to use recycling bins if you don’t have a dedicated recycling service like First Mile. Make sure they’re obviously placed and perhaps put some signs up to reinforce you want to do more to recycle rubbish.
  3. Do what you can to use less paper. Do you really need to print that document, or can it be shared digitally? If you can go almost entirely paperless, that’s fantastic!
